The intent was to create a body of work that focused on clients' physical and active responses before, during and after prescribed exercise routines. Comparative expressions and reactions were captured as the participants prepared for the classes, then whilst exercising and at the conclusion. I believe that this photographic concept entitled No Gain Without... could be unique and one that has much potential in exposing differing emotions and physical expressions.
This project was perfect for my particular photographic style as it encompassed the blurring of the genres of portraiture with reportage. No Gain Without... was undertaken with close and sensitive collaboration between the photographer and the participants within the project.
I am very grateful to Saxon Leisure Centre in Biggleswade for granting me permission to photograph. Last but not least, generous and brave participants of the project, I extend my gratitude to all.
